Representative Price’s Statement on the Death of Representative Melanie Wade Goodwin
Raleigh, NC (September 2, 2020) – Congressman David Price (NC-04) released a statement on the death of former State Representative and Chief Deputy Commissioner of the North Carolina Industrial Commission, Melanie Wade Goodwin.
“Lisa and I were saddened to learn of Representative Melanie Wade Goodwin’s untimely passing, and we want to extend our condolences to Wayne, her husband and partner in public service, and their family. In her work with the North Carolina Council for Women before earning her J.D. at Campbell University School of Law and then as representative of Richmond and Montgomery counties in the General Assembly, Melanie put families first, supporting public education, enhancing accessible healthcare, and encouraging women of all ages to pursue their dreams and embrace opportunity. Her impact extended to labor rights in her work as Chief Deputy Commissioner of the North Carolina Industrial Commission, where she dedicated herself to ensuring fair labor practices and protecting workers.
I have been privileged to know and admire Melanie and Wayne as friends and colleagues. Her premature death leaves us with an acute sense of loss but also gratitude for a life of service that has been a source of support and inspiration for many North Carolinians.”
