WASHINGTON, DC (June 27, 2019) – On Thursday, June 27, 2019, Congressman David Price (D-NC), released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to send a citizenship question on the 2020 Census back to the Department of Commerce for further review:

“I’m encouraged that the Supreme Court has determined that the Trump administration’s decision to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census did not follow proper procedure and requires further consideration,” said Congressman David Price. “An accurate Census is fundamental to our representative democracy and must not be corrupted by partisan officials seeking to silence minorities, immigrants, and other populations.  Beyond the apportionment of congressional seats, a failed Census would jeopardize the proper allocation of federal resources among the states.”

“While I welcome the Court’s decision, the path forward remains uncertain and the fight for an accurate Census is far from over. The Constitution requires that every person residing in the United States, citizen and noncitizen alike, be counted. In the coming months, I will do everything I can to ensure the voices of every person in every community are heard.”
