Chairman Price Reacts to Reckless and Extreme Trump Budget
WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 12, 2018) – Congressman David Price (D-NC), Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee and a member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after this morning’s Budget Committee hearing on President Trump’s fiscal year (FY) 2020 budget request:
“We have seen this tired playbook before: first, bankrupt the nation with tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations; then, propose a budget that makes working families foot the bill, with devastating cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and other critical investments,” said Congressman Price. “Far from making America great again, this budget betrays American values and mortgages our future.
“Today’s budget hearing reaffirms that the Trump Administration is hopelessly out of touch with the major challenges of our time: rising inequality, crumbling infrastructure, an affordable housing crisis, and pressing global challenges such as climate change and rising authoritarianism. This budget is truly the worst of both worlds: it fails to address our rising national debt while doing great damage to investments in health, research, education, and other vital programs. The American people deserve better, and I call on my colleagues to reject this proposal and negotiate a budget that makes the investments a great nation should make.”
