U.S. Rep. David Price was awarded the 2013 Commodore Ellsworth P. Bertholf Award on Wednesday. The annual U.S. Coast Guard award recognizes one congressional leader for exceptional support of the Coast Guard and maritime safety and security.

At a special ceremony on Capitol Hill, Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft said Price’s support for the Aviation Technical Training Center in Elizabeth City “ensured that our men and women continue to provide the search and rescue capability that the American people have come to rely upon for nearly 224 years.”

Price, a Chapel Hill Democrat, was also recognized for helping the Coast Guard receive 14 new C-27J airplanes from the Air Force.

Two years ago, Rep. Howard Coble, a Greensboro Republican, was presented with the 2011 Commodore Ellsworth P. Bertholf Award
